His spectacular success in overhauling and modernizing the CHESTERFIELD service prepared the way for his even greater success at SCARBOROUGH. Here he organized a new service in the old MI building. This soon proved inadequate and made necessary the large extension of 1936. Local studies and work with children were specially developed and a museum and art gallery, of which he was appointed Director, were also established.
